HOBET

The Health Occupations Basic Entrance Test (HOBET) is designed primarily as a diagnostic instrument to assist Health Occupation schools evaluate the academic and social skills of new applicants to their programs. Based upon the profile generated by this test, a program can more objectively screen applicants for admission. The HOBET also provides an academic/social profile of a class already admitted. In both profiles, the educational program will be provided with valuable information helpful in meeting individual student needs.

Over thirty diagnostic scores are generated for each examinee and the academic program is provided with a group profile, consisting of computer generated means for the following seven subtest areas:

1. Essential Math Skills

2. Social Interaction Profile - The HOBET provides insight into the passive/aggressive group leadership style of the individual student within a group.

3. Stress Level Profile - The HOBET produces a self-perceived stress profile for each examinee and group in five areas of personal coping: family life, social life, the work place, academic adequacy and time/money.

4. Learning Style

5. Reading Comprehension for Science Textbooks - The HOBET evaluates reading comprehension at the inferential level for science-related material.

6. Reading Rate

7. TestTaking Skills - The HOBET measures ability to utilize test taking strategies when taking objective, essay and standardized exams.

Composite Score is the mean of an individual’s mathematics and reading comprehension scores. It provides a comparison index for the established test mean of beginning freshmen college students.

Registration: To register to take a HOBET test, contact the Testing Center via email at testingcenter@fortlewis.edu or by phone at (970) 382-6938.

HOBET tests can be scheduled Monday through Friday, anytime during the year.

The total fee for taking the HOBET at FLC is $42.50.

The test takes three hours and can be scheduled by individual appointment. Students need to bring two forms of unexpired ID—one must have a current photograph. (Drivers license, school ID, passport, work ID, credit card with photo ID are acceptable.)

Policies:

  • Students may not write in test booklets.
  • Students may not wear hats.
  • Students may not leave Testing Center.
  • Students may not bring food or drink into Testing Center.
